We had the honor of performing a special tribute to Aotearoa, with the Māori Kapa Haka, in addition to sharing dances from Tahiti and Hawai’i as part of pre-game activities and celebrations. Happy International Dance Day! 🌎 Celebrating d Happy International Dance Day! 🌎 Celebrating dance of all cultures, nations, and forms! Living in Canada 🇨🇦, it is such a blessing and a privilege to be able to witness and celebrate the expression of dance and movement of so many different cultures, without fear of persecution. It is so wonderful too, that in our country, people of different ethnicities are welcomed to try, explore, and discover various dance cultures and forms. In our halau, we welcome anyone and everyone - all ages (from keiki to teens, adults, and seniors with our oldest dancer 92 yrs old!), all levels, all ethnicities, and nationalities! Those routines were not easy, and many stretched each individual dancer - exploring various styles of Hula and Polynesian (ie Tahitian, NZ Maori) dance outside the dancers’ comfort zone and natural personality.
