What a fun day at the @livealohafestival in Seattl What a fun day at the @livealohafestival in Seattle yesterday! Swipe right for photos! 🤙🏼❤️ ‌ 🌺 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝟭: Auntie Manu and Paul go wayyyy back. Auntie was in the first group of ladies who competed in the very first Merrie Monarch Festival! It started in 1964 but it wasn't until 1971 that it welcomed a new element, the hula competition. She introduced Paul to Uncle George (the founder of the Merrie Monarch) while Paul, in his teens, was traveling annually with his students to Seattle to the participate in the Hui O Na Kumu Hula annual teacher / student event, also founded by Uncle George. Over the years Paul has brought Auntie Manu up to Vancouver to be the official judge for BC's "Festival Polynesia!" Dance Competition, where she judged and taught invigorating workshops. Now at 82 years old she is still as frisky as ever and going strong from. She is still widely known and respected in the entire state for her incredible array of Hawaiian Mele Hula and ukulele playing. 🩷 ‌ 🌺 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝟮: Paul met Gloria when he was 11 years old and dancing in his parents Tavai's Polynesia dance studio in Surrey. Gloria, a beautiful young woman worked for Aloha Airlines which would fly to Vancouver and do a variety of promotional shows to promote Hawaiian tourism USA/ Canada wide. Paul’s’ mothers’ Halau was always hired to be the official main cast show for Aloha Airlines’ promo shows due to the variety of Pacific island. It was there Paul and Gloria formed a brother sister attachment that has lasted for over 50 years. Gloria came to Vancouver to adjudicate the 1982 / 2nd annual Festival Polynesia…And has returned countless of times. Her students have taken workshops with Paul and vice versa. She is still going strong with her 50 year Hula Halau O Napualani, @halau_hula_o_napualani who did a spectacular job yesterday as always. Paul and Gloria cannot go to each other's shows without each one dragging each other up on stage to share hula! This time it was my turn to pop in. Too fun! Auntie Gloria is a Class Act and a very knowledgeable award-winning, old school, knowledgeable full of Aloha, class and always Pono. 🌺 #paullattadancers #hula #livealoha #seattle
𝗠𝗔𝗛𝗔𝗟𝗢 to everyone who came out 𝗠𝗔𝗛𝗔𝗟𝗢 to everyone who came out to support our Maui Fire Relief fundraiser YESTERDAY in Steveston, Richmond, at the Aloha Hawaiian Grill! 🌺 ‌ Our event was featured on the CBC 11pm Vancouver News yesterday evening AND today’s 6pm broadcast! See video!! 😍 ‌ Mahalo Nui loa once again to everyone who came and supported Maui, took in some of our shows, and had the delicious Hawaiian food offered by @aloha.hawaiian.grill . ‌ ⭐️ A 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝗼𝗵𝗮 𝗛𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗶𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹 for all their hard work and keeping up with all the food orders AND for generously donating 20% of all sales yesterday as well as all tips made from Aug 16th to Aug 30th! ‌ ⭐️𝗔 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀 who volunteered their time, doing a total of 𝟭𝟲 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙬𝙨 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝟴 𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨, 𝙣𝙤𝙣-𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙥!
